Non-Pokémon Anime

I know that most of these are fairly recent, the reason is because if I don't stay up to date I will probably never take the time to watch them. And that would be sad. Out of all of the new/ongoing anime right now I've decided that these left the biggest mark on me, some of them are just amazing to behold.

  • Phantom: Requiem for the Phantom I watched the first arc of Phantom: Requiem for the Phantom and enjoyed it, unfortunately the ending really turned me off the series. After that I watched a number of episodes in the second arc. What I found was that the new female lead was really boring and flat. After that I didn't care if she was going to become a fleshed out character or not, the effort wasn't worth it. That is why I am striking it from the list. Though the show is still worth mentioning, it just isn't an editor's pick.
    • SNAFU
  • Kids on the Slope I loved everything about this show, but the music is what really captured me. But that should not comes as a suprise, fans of anime will know the name Yoko Kanno who compose works for some of the biggest anime franchises.
  • Non Non Biyori
  • Code Geass
  • Magi

Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex

While the original movie was undeniably ground breaking, the TV series has gone so much further into the world of Section 9.

This is what you expect a show to do though, and it is understandable that really building a full world in a film alone is hard to do. But the show goes abut developing the characters, and adding new ones and generally making things more engaging.

This series is one of the best Sci-Fi series I've ever seen, and one of the best done anime I've seen in general. I've seen this show more times than I can count. The show is a joy to watch because it takes time to fill the streets with interesting people and plots that pull you into the story. Stand Alone Complex doesn't do anything new or weird, and this allows it to keep the story in focus. That and it has one of the most well done romances in an anime without detracting from the plot.

Sometimes I feel stupid for caring about this series as much as I do. But most of the time I'm devastated knowing I'll never love any anime as this one.

The questions it raises are incredibly relevant today and will continue to be in the future.
